3M™ Diamond Grade™ Conspicuity Tape 983
The standard for commercial-vehicle contour marking — red and white and yellow configurations for side and rear application, engineered for high retro-reflective performance and long outdoor durability.
A large share of serious commercial-vehicle collisions happen in darkness, and a high proportion involve a vehicle that was simply not seen in time. Retro-reflective conspicuity marking returns headlight light straight back to the approaching driver, making the vehicle's shape and size readable from far further away.
Retro-reflective sheeting for vehicles, plus the floor and lane marking products used inside plants and warehouses.

The standard for commercial-vehicle contour marking — red and white and yellow configurations for side and rear application, engineered for high retro-reflective performance and long outdoor durability.

Full-cube prismatic sheeting for road signage — very high brightness and wide-angle performance for highway and city conditions.

Sign-grade prismatic sheeting for permanent traffic signage, plant signage and wayfinding where long service life outdoors is required.

Preformed marking for roads, parking structures, plant roadways and temporary work-zone layouts — faster to apply than paint and considerably longer lasting.

Durable vinyl tape for floor lane marking, aisle demarcation, 5S zoning and safety walkways inside plants and warehouses. Available in a full colour range including hazard striping.
Conspicuity marking is both a regulatory requirement for commercial vehicles in India and one of the cheapest risk reductions available to a fleet operator.
Retro-reflective marking on commercial vehicles in India is governed by AIS-090. Non-compliant vehicles face enforcement action, and non-compliant marking can complicate an insurance claim after a night-time incident.
Reduced visibility conditions account for a disproportionate share of serious commercial-vehicle collisions relative to the traffic volume in those hours.
A single reflector tells a driver something is there. Contour marking along the full length and width tells them how big it is, which way it is facing and how fast the gap is closing.
Conspicuity marking is among the least expensive interventions on any fleet risk register, and unlike most it requires no ongoing operational change.
Conspicuity marking fails for boringly practical reasons — applied to a dirty surface, applied in the wrong pattern, or bought cheap and faded within a season. These are the things that determine whether it still works in year three.
Where we are most often asked to supply and install across Maharashtra, Goa and the rest of India.

Most 3M resellers ship material and leave. We survey the site, prepare the surface, install it properly and document what was done — because that is where the customer's risk actually sits.

AIS-090 is the Indian automotive standard governing retro-reflective marking on commercial vehicles — it sets out where marking must be applied, in which colours, and to what coverage on the side and rear of the vehicle. It applies to commercial vehicle categories rather than private cars. Tell us your vehicle types and body configurations and we will confirm what applies to your fleet.
When new, you often cannot by eye alone — which is exactly why the counterfeit market works. The difference appears in service: genuine prismatic sheeting retains its brightness for years, while low-grade copies dim substantially within a season and start delaminating. The reliable protection is provenance — buy through an authorised distributor with a GST invoice that traces back to 3M India. We can show our current authorisation certificate on request.
Almost always surface preparation. Vehicle bodies carry road film, diesel residue and polish, and sheeting applied over that contamination will lift at the edges within weeks. Cold or wet application during monsoon is the second common cause — the adhesive cannot wet out properly and never achieves full bond strength. Both are avoidable with correct process, which is what we do when we mark a fleet.
Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it. We bring the material and team to your yard and work through vehicles in batches, so you are not releasing trucks one at a time. We schedule around your operating pattern, including night and weekend working for fleets that run during the day.
Conspicuity tape is designed for application to vehicle bodies — flexible, durable against washing and weather, and supplied in the strip widths and colour configurations that AIS-090 requires. Sign sheeting such as DG3 and High Intensity Prismatic is designed to be applied to rigid sign faces for permanent signage, and comes in sheet form with different durability and brightness characteristics.
Yes. Series 471 vinyl tape is used for aisle demarcation, walkway marking, forklift routes and 5S zoning. It is far more durable than paint for internal traffic areas and can be lifted and re-laid when a layout changes, which paint cannot.
Tell us how many vehicles you run and what type. We will inspect the fleet, report compliance status per vehicle and quote to bring the whole fleet up to standard.
